Modern engineering collaboration among industrial partners requires a common language describing their work in progress in an unambiguous manner, this is why dimensional tolerances on mechanical parts must be represented in a 3D standard already used by the world’s most advanced engineering projects. Mechanical engineering teachers know how difficult and un-exciting it can be to deliver courses on tolerancing. Now, Dassault Systèmes has applied interactive 3D gaming technologies to make this subject easy to teach and fun to learn.

Dassault Systèmes, the French Ministry of Education and the University of Versailles / IUT de Mantes technical college have set up "Course en Cours" (literally "Race in Class"), a Mini Formula 1 inter-collegiate contest in which 200 middle and high school students designed and manufactured mini F1 cars using CATIA V5.
